SHIMLA: As the countdown to the Vidhan Sabha elections due late next year starts, both the ruling BJP and the
Congress have started a war of attrition. While Congress leaders, led by former chief minister and Union minister at the Centre Virbhadra Singh, fire salvos at the state government, the BJP leaders have a hard time fending off the volley of accusations.
While corruption at high places, misuse of official machinery and giving land in violation of the state laws are allegations that are being hurled the most at Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and his government, the BJP leaders are warding off the innuendo by hitting back at the Congress and targeting, particularly Union minister for micro, small and medium industries Virbhadra Singh.
However, the volley of accusations and counter accusations has now taken a new turn, with Virbhadra Singh telling newspersons in Dharamshala recently that he would abide by the instructions of the party high command, and if directed would not only contest but lead the party in the ensuing elections. For a man, who has been at the helm of the state for about 25 years and is a known vote-getter in Himachal Pradesh, has alarm bells ringing for the BJP. In fact every time the Union minister comes to the state, he launches a broadside at the BJP and its government in the state by raising posers that the party leaders had hard fending off.
